Seed Question

Vonn,

Thanks so much for the info. You probably saved me from ruining a lot of seeds. I'll tell you the details of what I've done so far and what I am planning on doing.

I got some seed pods from my Golden Barrel. Some of the pods were hard and dry inside and full of seeds. Other pods were soft and moist and the seeds were in a wet gel inside the pods. I opened some of the pods, both wet
and dry ones, and scraped the seeds onto a paper towel. I folded the seeds in the towel and they have been sitting in the house for over a week. The house is always between 75 and 80 degrees. I put the other pods, some wet and some dry, into a zip lock bag ant put them in the refrigerator.

A couple days ago I went to a local cactus grower and got some cactus potting soil. He mixes it himself. The only place I figure I can grow them in inside next to a northern facing window. The window is under a covered
porch so there is on direct sunlight. The only other options are the dark hot garage or outside in the heat.

Tomorrow or the next day I will microwave
some of the soil. I thought I would poke some small holes in the bottom of some plastic disposable bowls, cereal/soup size, and try to start 8 to 12 seeds in each bowel. Cover
the bowels with saran wrap and set them in a dish of water.

If any of this sounds wrong, let me know.

Should I wet the soil on top and let it drain before putting on the seeds or just put it in the dish of water?

Assuming they grow, when can I transplant each one to its own container?

You can't imagine how much I appreciate your help. Being disabled I get very board not being able to work. For about 10 years I have wanted to grow things but have only thought about it. Since I really like cactus and found out that mine was full of seeds I decided to give it a try.
