Hello,

I have a Peniocereus Greggii. I've had it for nearly a year. This Spring it put out three stems. You can view a pic of this cactus at http://members.cox.net/plumeriaz/peniocereus_greggii[1].jpg. It's currently planted in a 1-gal container. I believe that it's time to be transplanted. Unfortunately, I can't plant it in the ground. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a container size (width x depth) that i should use? I plan to use cactus soil from a local nursery and add in more pumice.

Thanks in advance,

Detrick

Hello Detrick,

Your selection for the size container you might consider using usually is a personal choice. I will sometimes choose a container based strictly on the size of the plant and the root system it has. First you should remove the plant from the existing container, remove some of the soil from the roots and gauge what may be needed. I sometimes go to a container 2 to 3 times larger than the existing one. If you have the plant in a one gallon container you should consider getting a 10 to 12 inch (width) container for your transplant, maybe even bigger. Always remember that you will need root space for this particular plant so a slightly deeper container may be better. Go to a good garden center or nursery around town and see what is available. Also ask for some help. They can sometimes get you started on the right path very quickly and add some suggestions as well.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks,
Vonn
