I heard a cracking sound and the saguaro began to lean about 6 inches to the right. It is still supporting itself, but also leaning slightly against a mesquite branch. Is there anything I can do to help it? Is it likely to heal itself and become stronger? If the Saguaro has serious damage it may not recover. If the damage is internal it could heal and continue to grow successfully without showing any signs of the actual damage. On the other hand if the plant shows a gaping wound you should dust the wound with powdered sulfur and watch the progress to see what may happen. If the root structure is stable I would do nothing too drastic although you may want to contact a nursery person to see if someone could come and give you a personal assessment of the damage. The plant could need to be straightened up by replanting etc. Please e-mail me personally for an expert to call. Thanks and good luck, Vonn |
